Today is Giving Tuesday, a day founded in the spirit of the Flynn Center’s staff mantra, “Everybody Belongs.” To keep the arts available to all, the Flynn works with 75 human and social service agencies to provide discounted tickets for their clients; area college students can buy a ticket for $10; of the 38,000 students who attend student matinees, 7,300 attend for free; and the Flynn provides $30,000 in scholarships for everyone to participate in ongoing classes and camps. Everyone has something to give.
Experiencing a performance through our Student Matinee Series makes an indelible impression on a child. At matinees, students are challenged to understand and appreciate each other; learn in creative new ways, and build community and connections to one another. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to experience this, regardless of their financial situation. Today, we have a full theater for a student matinee performance by Jazzy Ash, which invites students on a musical adventure to New Orleans as they laugh, clap, and sing along. 277 of those students see today’s performance at no cost.
This Giving Tuesday, please consider making a gift to help a student in need attend a student matinee. A donation of $8.50 sends a child to see a show; $212.50 will send an entire class. We’re thankful for any gift you’d like to make, and appreciate your support in making sure that “Everybody Belongs."
